About me

Hello, my name is Cate Bickmore and I have been working in PR, communications and editorial for more than 20 years. I started out as the editorial assistant on a national magazine, then did a PGCE and a bit of secondary school English teaching (which is why I’m terribly good with apostrophes). I moved on to agency PR, then worked for a highly respected medical publisher on multiple academic medical journals. I’ve since worked in corporate communications and engagement for several NHS organisations, which gave me some particularly useful experience in media relations.

Freelance since 2013, I now provide freelance copywriting, copy editing, editing and proofreading services to a range of clients across the UK and beyond. I work with publishing houses and PR agencies, with independent authors and for businesses. I am approachable and friendly, but highly professional. I take great pride in my work; that’s why all of my quotes include any amends and re-writes, provided they’re within the scope of the original brief.

I think (and feedback from my clients suggests) that my research ability sets me apart in this market. I don’t just write well, I write intelligently and with regard to quality sources.

I work from my own offices in Hemel Hempstead, which is just north of London. When I’m not working I like messing about on Adobe (especially Illustrator), dressmaking, watching stand-up comedy and chatting.
